linking with url data not displayed

I have a column "part number" that I have linked to a column "link" which contains a URL.

it works great as long as the "link" column is also displayed.

if i move the "link" column out so it is not displayed the query crashes with: "Error:1054-Unknown column"

the link is long and ugly so using the "part number" as the link text with the url behind is preferred.

Did you have any luck sorting this? I've emailed twice and i've not had any response. I've got a website that needs to go live with the links working asap.
