After viewing linked pdf keep search result open?

Hello all. In my 'product' search the results are a clickable link which opens a pdf. When you close the pdf the current search and results dissappear from the form. Is there any way to keep these visible so you don't have to keep putting in the same search when the pdf is closed?

Do you have an example on line?

Maybe you can try the following solution, which opens the link in new tab or window. It is a small hack, where you have to change something in the PHP code, but I think is should not be too hard to fix it.
